Biography
Dr Antonino Caminiti works in the Science Department of the OIE – World Organisation for Animal Health. Dr Caminiti is in charge of two projects, which include the establishment of a web-based platform for the collection of genetic sequences of animal pathogens and the creation of a virtual biobank to facilitate the exchange of biological resources, especially reference diagnostic materials produced and supplied by the OIE Reference Laboratories.
A veterinarian by training, Dr Caminiti graduated from Bologna University, Italy. He has a post-graduate diploma in Food Safety and Hygiene by Bologna University, and a Master in International Health Care Management, Economics and Policy by SDA Bocconi, School of Management, Milan.
He has extensive experience in data collection, processing and dissemination. His professional and personal interests include implications and challenges for data collection, access and sharing, and economic aspects associated to surveillance and control of animal diseases.
Dr Caminiti previously worked as an epidemiologist at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell’Emilia-Romagna (Brescia, Italy), a public health institution that specialises in diagnosis of animal diseases and food safety.
