Dr. Salama Almuhairi
Dr. Salama Almuhairi is the director of the Veterinary Laboratories in Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), in the United Arab Emirates managing four laboratories for the diagnosis of Animal and Zoonotic diseases which affect both animal and human health as well as the response to emergency due to disease outbreaks. Prior to her assignment as a director of the Veterinary Laboratories, she was the director of the Food laboratories since 2010 giving her a good range of experience from farm to fork. She has a Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology from UK in 2005. Dr. Almuhairi is trained on ISO 17025 test witnessing and audit and has excellent experience in the quality management systems. The veterinary laboratories under her management succeeded in obtaining the ISO 17025 accreditation from UKAS in several diagnostic tests and a number of ISO certifications including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 22301:2012 and BSI PAS 99:2012 from BSI. She established an inter-laboratory comparison program with participation from laboratories within UAE and other regional countries as part of the quality management system.
She takes part in a number of national committees in the Emirate, she is a member of the advisory scientific committee for national biosecurity and the head of committee for establishing a biosecurity strategy in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Almuhairi has 6 year experience in emergency preparedness and response since 2013 and published scientific articles in international peer reviewed journals and participated in a number of international conferences and meetings organized by WHO, FAO and OIE.
